Why I am grateful as a trauma survivor. | Trauma Life Coach

Having gratitude as a trauma survivor.

I want to take a step back and look at how much we have changed as a civilization and be grateful for that. I know that gratitude is not the easiest thing to talk about when you come from abuse. Trust me. I get it. I spend so much time on gratitude that I can genuinely point it to the significant changes in my life. I want to be clear that gratitude is not I must have a great life because someone has it worse. No, gratitude is being thankful for what you do have. I am so grateful for so many things in my life, from family to career and everything in between. Why? Because statistically, I should be dead or in jail, and that is simply the truth

So how do we be more grateful as trauma survivors? I think it starts with measuring the place you in life. Can it be better? Sure. But, think about this, if you are reading this right now, then that means you are alive, which means that you have every opportunity to create the life you want. I start with gratitude in creating the life you want because if you are thankful that it goes beyond all logic and reason that you are alive right now at this moment, then everything else is a bonus. Yes, we have suffered as adult survivors of abuse; I carry the scars every day. Not a day goes by that I don’t look at the finger my mother cut off and think about the pain. But I can’t change the past. All I can do is look at what is in front of me and accept that as long as I am breathing that I have an opportunity to leave an impact on the world. And for that I am grateful.

Until next time my friend…
